The internet has greatly expanded access to information, but it has also contributed to a growing political divide between left and right-wing ideologies. Social media platforms often create echo chambers, where users encounter mainly content that reinforces their beliefs. This can deepen divisions, making it harder to find common ground.
Both sides of the political spectrum often see issues from starkly different perspectives, sometimes viewing each other as threats. Misinformation spreads quickly online, often overshadowing more balanced views, which can exacerbate tensions.
Machine learning and AI can contribute to this by promoting content that elicits strong reactions. However, these technologies also have the potential to encourage diverse perspectives and promote critical thinking if used responsibly.
To address these challenges, it’s crucial to focus on education that enhances digital literacy and critical evaluation of information. Encouraging acceptance of facts, rather than the fabrication of them, is essential for fostering understanding and reducing polarisation.
I do not feel this is a focus from our society at our detriment.
